Residents Invited to Submit Designs for New Watertown Cultural District Logo

WATERTOWN, MA — In a vibrant effort to enhance its cultural landscape, the Watertown Cultural District has launched a local design competition, inviting residents to create a new logo that reflects the district’s mission and values centered on promoting arts and culture. Cultural Districts in Massachusetts are established to drive economic growth, strengthen community identity, and improve quality of life.
The Watertown Cultural District stretches from Main Street to Waverly Avenue, crosses the Charles River on Galen Street, and runs up Mount Auburn Street to Common Street. This geographically diverse area is managed by the Cultural District Partnership, a collaborative group that includes nonprofits, businesses, artists, and a city representative, all working together to foster a thriving hub of cultural and economic activity.
This competition is open to all Watertown residents except city employees and requires that designs be original and complete. The design should be fun, colorful, and suitable for all ages. The winner of this competition will receive tickets to local events and gift certificates to local restaurants.
Submissions opened on Monday, January 6th and will close on Sunday, February 23rd. Entries will be evaluated based on their relevance to the district’s mission, the use of colorful or joyful imagery, and strong compositional integrity. For more information about the contest rules and how to participate, residents can visit the City of Watertown’s website at watertown-ma.gov/culturaldistrict.

Established in 2011 by an act of the state Legislature, the Cultural Districts Initiative supports cultural and creative experiences that attract tourists and entrepreneurs. This initiative helps cities and towns like Watertown develop their cultural sector and expand their tax base. Cultural Districts are strategically located in communities of all sizes throughout every region of Massachusetts. These districts are characterized by a high density of cultural facilities, activities, and assets.
