Watertown Athletic Director Ryan Murphy Celebrates Fall Sports Success, Highlights Winter Season Hopes
WATERTOWN, MA – Watertown Public Schools’ Athletic Director, Ryan Murphy, recently sat down with WPS Family Engagement and Communications Strategist Matt McCarthy at WCA-TV’s Studio B to reflect on an eventful fall sports season and look ahead to an exciting winter.
Murphy and McCarthy discussed the achievements of the Raiders, including the standout performance of the field hockey team, which boasts an impressive unbeaten streak and three consecutive state championships. The fall season also saw other impressive moments, from boys soccer advancing to state playoffs to the cross-country and swim teams showcasing individual talents.
A particularly proud moment for Murphy was sharing the news that field hockey star Rachel Egan earned the MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month award. Recognized for her athletic talent, leadership, and dedication to academics, Rachel’s achievements underscore the Raiders’ emphasis on excellence both on and off the field.
The Raiders’ spirit of camaraderie was especially evident when the entire football team attended a cheerleading competition to support their peers, making Watertown the only school to bring such a show of unity. The cheerleading team’s performance was rewarded with an advance to the regionals.
Murphy also shared a sneak peek at the winter season, encouraging families to register early and support the teams. With a newly renovated middle school gym and high expectations for basketball, hockey, wrestling, and more, he anticipates a thrilling winter season ahead.
