World in Watertown Calls for 2025 Unity Award Nominations Ahead of Annual MLK Unity Breakfast

The following Press Release was submitted by World in Watertown
WATERTOWN, MA – Do you have an unsung hero in your Watertown life? Perhaps your hero is an individual, or a group of folks, who have worked hard to make our community more welcoming and inclusive, and to ensure fair and equal treatment for all who live or work in Watertown?
If you know of a person or a group who might fit this description, now is the time to recognize and thank them for their work! Each year at Watertown’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Unity Breakfast, the World in Watertown presents its Unity Award, to honor unsung heroes who are quietly making extraordinary contributions to our community. Past recipients include teachers and youth workers, as well as folks who support newly-arrived refugees, address issues of food insecurity, promote peace and improved cross-cultural relationships, foster racial understanding, and so much more.
Unity Award nominees may be individuals or groups, and should meet the following criteria:
- The nominee should be a Watertown resident, someone who works in Watertown, an organization based in Watertown, or one that supports Watertown residents.
The nominee should also be a person or group that has:
- Demonstrated a commitment to the foundational principles of racial, social, and economic justice;
- Supported the human rights of all people;
- Operated with a vision of equity and inclusion;
- Contributed to the Watertown community in concrete ways within the 2024 calendar year. (And if your nominee is an employee of a city department or private agency, their contributions should be seen as being above and beyond the work they are paid to do.)
The Unity Award will be presented at the upcoming Unity Breakfast on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20, 2025. Please submit your nomination using the following link: https://forms.gle/bKtqGXk8isbvDF4u5.
Nominations must be received by November 1, 2024.
