Watertown High Football Team Ready for Thanksgiving Showdown Against Belmont
WATERTOWN, MA – The Watertown High School football team is preparing for its annual Thanksgiving game against longtime rival Belmont High School. Head coach Joey Carroll and team captains Gnai Concannon-Garvin, Giovanni Paola, and Peter Pavlidis shared their thoughts on the season and the much-anticipated matchup.
“This has been a season of growth,” Coach Carroll said. “Our 13 seniors have led the way through adversity, embodying the ‘we over me’ mentality. This game is a testament to their hard work and the culture we’re building.”
Despite a challenging 3-7 record, the team remains unified. “We’ve become a family,” said Captain Peter Pavlidis. “This year, we really came together, and we’re excited to face Belmont.”
For starting quarterback Gnai Concannon-Garvin, the season had its ups and downs. “I’d rather lose or win with no one else but this team,” he said. Meanwhile, lineman Giovanni Paola reflected on the demanding battles in the trenches, focusing on overcoming adversity each game.
The upcoming game holds special significance, as the Raiders aim to avenge last year’s 47-0 loss to Belmont in the 101st annual Thanksgiving matchup. “This game is special. It’s about leaving everything on the field,” Coach Carroll said.
Kickoff is at 10:00 AM at Harris Field in Belmont. Fans who can’t attend the game in person can watch it live. Belmont Media Center will broadcast the game starting at 9:30 AM, with WCA-TV simulcasting the coverage on the Education Channel (Comcast Channel 8 and RCN Channel 15). The game will also stream online at wcatv.org.
Happy Thanksgving!
