Internships

WCA-TV relies on volunteers to help our organization in a variety of capacities. Interns provide WCA-TV with valuable work hours every week, and in exchange, our interns gain experience and training in all aspects of television production. Interns do not have to be affiliated with an academic program, but must commit to at least ten to fifteen hours/week. Want to earn college credits? We’re happy to work with your college or university to ensure you get credit for your work with us. We offer internships in Video Production and News Production. These internships are unpaid.

Video Production

Interns receive hands-on training in TV studio production, video field production, and digital editing. Interns assist in the production of studio shows, public service announcements, and event coverage for broadcast on WCA-TV channels and wcatv.org. Interns are encouraged to create their own projects for their demo reels.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with field productions operating cameras, setting up audio, and conducting interviews
  • Assist with studio productions setting up cameras, lighting, and audio in the studio as well as operating either switcher, audio, or teleprompter in the control room
  • Edit shows, b-roll, and/or news packages in Adobe Premiere CC
  • Assist WCA-TV covering government meetings, community events, and live sports
  • To apply, please email a cover letter and resume to [email protected].

News Production

Interns will learn the ins and outs of producing a full-length television newscast and be able to put together news segments for our weekly news program, Watertown Weekly News. Interns will have the opportunity to produce their own stories and be on-air.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify top stories of the week
  • Develop the stories and produce any interviews or footage needed
  • Assist News Producer with the writing of the script and overall production of the weekly newscast program for cablecast
  • To apply, please email a cover letter and resume to [email protected].
