Boston Renegades Mark 25 Years of Inclusive Baseball
WATERTOWN – The Boston Renegades, New England’s first competitive blind and visually impaired adult sports team, recently celebrated their 25th anniversary with a public media day at Filippello Park. The team, which plays an adaptive version of baseball known as “beep ball,” has practiced in Watertown for nearly two decades.
Beep baseball uses audible balls and buzzing bases to help players track the game through sound. The Renegades are sponsored by the Association of Blind Citizens and include nearly 40 athletes, coaches, and volunteers.
The anniversary event invited the public to learn about the sport and meet players and coaches who have helped the team grow into a model for adaptive athletics. The program highlighted the team’s history, community impact, and the accessible techniques used in gameplay.
