Watertown’s First Community STEM Night Draws Big Crowd, Showcases Student Innovation
WATERTOWN – More than 150 residents came out to Watertown Middle School on Tuesday, April 29, for the city’s first-ever Community STEM Night—an evening filled with student-led exhibits, science demonstrations, and career connections.
Organized by Watertown Public Schools in partnership with the Watertown Business Coalition, the event offered families and community members the opportunity to explore local innovation and discover the many ways STEM—science, technology, engineering, and math—are shaping education and the future workforce.
Guests engaged in hands-on activities, including live chemistry experiments led by Watertown High School students and an opportunity to test out the school’s 2025 FIRST Robotics competition robot. WHS students also offered computer programming tutorials and staffed the Medical Assisting Wellness Clinic, providing basic health screenings. The school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) classrooms were open for tours, and the Culinary Arts program served fresh-made flatbreads and cookies.
A highlight of the evening was a video produced by WCA-TV that played on a loop in the auditorium, featuring updates on the new Watertown High School building, profiles of local biotech firms, and behind-the-scenes footage from the WHS Robotics Team.
The event also included presentations from Ai3 Architects and Vertex Engineering, who discussed the sustainability goals and innovative design features of the new high school.
Other participants included the WHS CoLAB STEM Career Collaboration, Women in STEM Club, MassBay Community College, WCA-TV, Sai Life Sciences, AddGene, and the Watertown Free Public Library.
Special thanks to WHS Digital Media students and teacher Mike Riley for assisting with our coverage—especially student interviewer Jacob Bunnag.
