Watertown Kicks Off Holiday Season with Inclusive “Merry Mingle” Celebration
WATERTOWN, MA – On Sunday, December 1st, the Commander’s Mansion hosted the City of Watertown’s inaugural “Merry Mingle” event, marking a joyful and inclusive start to the holiday season. Formerly known as the “Whoville Jubilee,” the event was rebranded to reflect the diversity of the Watertown community and celebrate winter holidays from various cultures and traditions.
Attendees were treated to the debut of “Holidays Around the World” in the front parlor, featuring displays for Chinese New Year, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Diwali, and Las Posadas. This initiative aimed to educate and inspire appreciation for celebrations beyond Christmas.
Additional activities included storytime by the Watertown Free Public Library, craft stations with lantern-making in preparation for the upcoming “River of Light Parade” on January 18th at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, and creative projects hosted by local arts organizations. Outoors, Watertown Recreation delighted children with an artificial snowball fight, complete with snow machines and cotton snowballs.
A festive Polar Express train ride, sponsored by Watertown Savings Bank, brought holiday magic to life, while local artists and businesses showcased their wares. Musical and dance performances by Watertown Public Schools, the City Chorus, and Orchestra added a special touch of community spirit.
As residents mingled and enjoyed hot chocolate and sweet treats provided by Joe’s Variety, the event embodied the joy and connection of the season. Organizers expressed gratitude for the collaboration between city departments, local businesses, and community members, which made the event a resounding success.
