Sports Report: Raiders Boys Basketball Upset in First Round of MIAA Tournament

WCA-TV Studio – After a slow start to the season, the Raiders boys basketball team hit a hot streak that took them into the state tournament. Watertown entered the Div. 3 North tournament as the No. 7 seed which gave them a home game vs. No. 10 Weston.

The Raiders fell behind early. Weston’s Junior Uga caught fire as he poured in 14 points in the second quarter, while the Raiders scored only 16 in first half.

After falling behind by 23 points in the third quarter, Watertown mounted a comeback to climb within six points in the final minutes. It was too much to overcome for Watertown, stretch of bad luck and lack of focus sent them home. Gabe Spinelli continued his impressive sophomore season scoring 29 points. Watertown will graduate Captains Henry Papadopoulos, Chris Iannetta, and Nick McDermott. The future remains bright for the Raiders with Spinelli and center Devon Breen returning.
