Arsenal Yards and Elm Street Self-Storage Facility Present Updated Plans

Town Hall – The Watertown Planning Board convened on Wednesday, August 8 to continue discussions about a pending self-storage facility on Elm Street. The development team approached the Planning Board looking for a special permit for their facility. The permit would allow the building to be 4,000 square-feet and four stories tall. The added square footage is for open space to counteract the rise of the building’s height. The other recommendation was for the previous permits on the property be removed.

Arsenal Yards continues to be a common talking point at these meetings. Their development team wants to make design changes to building A. The original plan for called for retail space on both floors. After hours of discussion, the team found it quite difficult to find retailer who would want to be on the second floor. The revised plan is to have the second floor be a flex space with offices and rooms for research and development labs. There are multiple design changes that will be made to the roof as well, which was a point of concern for certain board members.
