Mt. Auburn Street Redesign Project Takes Small Step Forward Amid Major Concerns From Businesses

Town Hall – The Town Council met on Tuesday, July 10 to discuss a variety of topics. They passed a vote on the 25-percent design concept of the Mt. Auburn Street redesign project. This vote was passed with the condition that the council could meet later on in the year to discuss the plan concept.

The complete street team proposed a road diet concept. This would reduce the four lanes of traffic to only two lanes, in effect calming traffic. This would create buffered bike lanes and designated turn lanes. The current design concepts would eliminate much of the street parking near the intersection of Common Street and Mt. Auburn Street. Local businesses in the area have been very vocal about the adverse effect this could have on them.

The Council also passed an amendment to maintain all legal parking space in the business district on Mount Auburn Street.
