Sports Report: Field Hockey Avenges Record-Breaking Loss, Boys Soccer Maintains Impressive Form

WCA-TV Studio – The last time the Field Hockey team played Winchester, the Raiders’ 184-game unbeaten streak was snapped. This time around, Watertown had revenge on their mind against its division one foes. A back and forth game inseud, Watertown continued to pile on the offensive assault but goalkeeper Brooke Ross was on her game. The stalemate was eventually snapped when Katherine Connors was able to take a rebounded shot and slot in the bottom right corner. Taylor Lambo added a second goal for insurance on route to the 2-0 victory. Later in the week the Raiders put five goals past Burlington in the first half. They would add two more goals for a 7-0 victory.

Despite the horrible weather conditions, the boys soccer team continues its impressive form. The Raiders dominated time of possession, shots on goal and overall passes in the first half but had no goals to show for it. It wasn’t until Ruben Sara finished off an impressive cross from midfielder Gevork Karapetyan to break the tie. Moments later, Alex Egan would find the back of the net off a rebounded shot from Paulo Costa. Rodrigo Freitas would tally on a third goal as the Raiders would cruise to a 3-0 victory – their fifth in a row.

The football team’s 2018 struggles continued on Friday night. The Raiders would welcome powerhouse Melrose to Victory Field. Star running Mange Camara remained sidelined with an high ankle sprain. Melrose started off fast behind their power running attack. Watertown would respond as quarterback Nick McDermott drove them down the field. The Raiders took a massive gamble on 4th and 6, and the quarterback sneak was short by a yard. More of the same on the next drive for Melrose and the Raiders were in a 14-0 hole. Finally on the next drive the Raiders were able to power a run into the endzone. This was the closest the game would get as Melrose rolled off to a 28-13 victory.

In the feel good story of the week, the volleyball was able to secure a victory over Waltham in straight sets.
