Sports Report: WHS Softball Team Comes Up Short in Playoff Game

WCA-TV Studio – The Watertown High School Softball team was looking to make a run in the Division 3 state tournament. The Raiders secured the No. 12 seed and the right to host a preliminary game. They welcomed No. 21 seeded Winthrop, who had only won five games so far this season. The Raiders drew first blood, Jacquie Furbish would drive in the first run of the game. After that the bats went quiet for Watertown, as they couldn’t muster another run. Winthrop would score two runs in 5th inning and then add two runs in the last two innings. Winthrop’s combination of potent hitting and luck secured an early exit for the Raiders. Losing 4-1 to No.21 Winthrop is a sour end to a remarkable season for the Raiders who turned a 3-6 start into a 12-8 regular season record.
