Watertown Library Uses Solar Energy to Charge Cell Phones

Watertown Free Public Library – The Watertown Free Public Library’s Makerspace, HATCH, has unveiled its newest piece of innovative technology that will help people who need a little extra juice in their phones. Using the power of solar energy, people passing by the library will have access to Watertown’s first solar charging station. The station, which is a bench that can seat and be utilized by four people at a time, was designed and built at HATCH using the makerspace’s cutting edge technology, including its 3-D printer and laser cutter.

Residents, workers and those who are passing by are free to bring their own cables and use the charging station as they please. If they need a chord, they check one out for two hours with their library card.
