School Building Committee Presented with Increased Budget and New Schematic Plan Changes for School Buildings

Town Hall – As the School Building Committee inches their way towards the start of construction, plans and budgets are always changing. At the November 8 meeting, the board was presented with an updated budget of the construction costs and design estimates for the renovations of the Cunniff, Hosmer and Lowell elementary schools. The overall budget was increased for a multitude of reasons including insurance, utility charges, contingency and a $6 million raise in construction costs.

In addition to the increased budget, there were proposed major schematic changes, specifically in regards to windows. The original plan was to replace a small majority of windows that required immediate attention. The remainder of the windows would be kept in place. The reason for the change was the current state of all the windows. Upon further inspection by the Ai3 architects team, it was found that all of the windows would need be replaced in the near future due to failing seals.

The School Building Committee has started visiting schools and their respective neighborhoods. At these visits they will present the current plans and receive feedback from the citizens living in that neighborhood.
