Middlesex County District Attorney Candidates Debate Key Issues in Arlington

Arlington – On Tuesday July 24, the League of Women voters from three local chapters sponsored a debate between two candidates running for Middlesex County’s District Attorney. The debate featured incumbent Marian Ryan and challenger Donna Patalano.

Marian Ryan was appointed to the Middlesex District Attorney in 2013 after the current DA retired. She was officially elected in 2014 when she ran uncontested.

Donna Patalano started as a prosecutor in Suffolk County District. Her next stop was defending clients in the State and Federal justice system as a zealous advocate.

One major debate question revolved around facilitating restorative justice, which is a system of criminal justice. This program attempts to rehabilitate offenders with reconciliation with their victims and the community. The other important issues discussed included dealing with police misconduct and incorporating more transparency of the District Attorney’s office

The debate was recorded and co-sponsored by Arlington Community Media who have generously shared the debate with other community access stations in Middlesex County. To watch the debate in full, visit ACMi’s website at http://acmi.tv/.
