WCAC offers courses and workshops with the aim of helping local media producers in all aspects of production, from writing or prepping a program all the way through the final edit. New courses and workshops are added throughout the year, so be sure to check back often. If there is a course you are interested in taking that we do not offer, please let us know and we'll see what we can do about it.
Basic Requirement
Orientation Workshop Drop in any Monday to learn more about WCAC, get a tour of our state-of-the-art facility and meet the staff. This is free.
Studio Production Track
Multi-camera Studio Production (4 sessions)
Learn how to operate the video switcher, audio board and studio cameras and then create your own show! Take with friends, family or other community members!
Pre-Production Workshop (2 sessions)
If you want to produce your own show, this workshop will teach you the steps to reach your goals.
TV Production Workshop (4 sessions)
Dive in and explore all you need to know about producing a show starting from the writing to the shoot itself. Learn set design, audio, shot composition, and other aspects of producing.
Prerequisite: Field Camera Workshop and Multi Camera Studio Production Workshop or special permission from instructor.
Audio Technician Workshop (3 sessions)
Get hands-on training on all of WCAC’s audio equipment, including audio boards, microphones, portable mixers, and more.
Field Production Track
Location Lighting (1 Session)
Learn how to use WCAC’s portable and camera light kits to get beautiful lighting for all your shoots.
Field Camera Workshop (4 sessions)
Learn all of the functions of WCAC's field cameras. Become proficient at filming field productions and learn shot composition as well as audio capture.
Interview Techniques Workshop (3 sessions)
We will show you techniques and theories that will help you become a proficient interviewer. This workshop is recommended for any individual who would like to do any kind of reporting.
News Production (4 sessions)
If your bucket list includes becoming a news reporter, WCAC can help make your dream come alive! Learn what makes a successful news story, including writing, shooting, editing and much more.
Prerequisite: Interview Techniques Workshop or special permission from instructor.
Documentary Production (4 sessions)
Learn how to make compelling documentaries by exploring the theories behind some of the successful ones, such as camera and interview techniques, lighting and audio.
Prerequisite: Digital Video Editing I and Field Camera Workshop or special permission from instructor.
Post Production Track (Editing)
Digital Video Editing I (4 sessions)
Instruction on the basic aspects of Final Cut Pro: screen menus and windows, tape digitizing, basic editing & effects, titling, audio, and file management. Footage will be provided for editing.
Digital Video Editing II (4 sessions)
Learn how to create polished transitions and fades, create fantastic effects, use filters creatively, and title like a pro all using Final Cut Pro! Prerequisite: Intro to DV Editing, or special permission from instructor.
Intro to Graphic Design Using Photoshop (4 sessions)
Instruction on the basic aspects of Adobe Photoshop: screen menus and windows, basic editing & effects, and file management. Footage will be provided for editing.
Computer-Based Workshops
Introduction to Social Media (4 sessions)
Don’t be left behind in the social media craze! We’ll teach you to utilize effective online platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to build a vibrant, involved fan base to spread your message. Learn best techniques and key pointers that will guide your efforts for best results!
Become a DJ! (4 sessions)
WCAC has its very own Internet radio station, which means anyone with access to the Internet will be able to listen to your program. Our station will be an independent, member-run radio station reaching out to the world through online streaming on the Internet. We promote freedom of speech and accept programming of all types, in any language. Holding true to our commitment to freedom of speech, we give our radio DJs 100% control over their programs. Any Massachusetts resident can become one of our DJs. Simply fill out an application, and pay a $30 membership fee. This fee covers your radio equipment training session, as well as allows you to pick as many radio show blocks within our hours of operation as you wish.
The cost for each class and/or workshop is $20 (except for the DJ Workshop course) and can be paid for through our secure web form via credit card or Paypal, or cash or check in person at our Studio.
